The 2024 Elite Wave was a series of mass Elite Conqueror promotions on September 11, 2024, in which 76 people were promoted due to a decision made by Administration. The promotions caused initial complains and accountability filings before the controversy waded out.

History

Reason

According to former Administrator Biztal, the idea behind the wave was to dissolve Elite Conqueror and turn it into just a normal rank above Adept Conqueror. The perspective in which it was seen is that if there wasn't at least 100 Elites, the rank had "failed" due to such a low membership. The requirements for being promoted in the wave were described as "flexible requisites" by Chairman Marqret.

Another reason given by Administration is that the promotions were to provide balance to the Rank Hierarchy of World Conquest, and to decrease the perceived specialty and importance of the rank. Marqret stated that he was tired of the culture surrounding it.

Perpetration

Allegations arose that Biztal or 5yawn was the organizer of the promotions, but the actual organizer has not been disclosed. Several prominent people, including AdmiralFanatic, expressed their concerns.

Controversy

After the promotions, there were over 103 Elites, which caused mixed opinions amongst the community. In the immediate aftermath, there were rumors spreading that either Elite or Adept had been removed entirely. After the promotions, there were 4 accountabilities filed against Administration, all of which were deleted.

If the promotions had not gone through, Elite Conqueror would have otherwise been deleted due to insufficient members. Many people who had protested against the wave were deemed to use fallacious tactics such as hasty generalization, and had cherrypicked arguments.

Aftermath

The controversy surrounding the promotion wave subsided after a week, and as of November 2024, there are ~111 Elites. From a 1-month period after October 23, only 12% of messages relating to Elite Conqueror were related to the promotions.

2025 Elite Purge

On March 22, 2025, Trial Moderator authenticoslemones gathered fellow staff members and began the 2025 Elite Purge, a systematic demotion of many Elite Conquerors. Erroneously, they had interpreted new Elite obtainment standards as applying to ALL elites, including those promoted in the Elite Wave. It shared the goal of "reviving Elite" with the 2024 Elite Wave, despite attempting to achieve the goal in a contrasting way. 35 people were demoted from Elite, however, after Administration noticed, 33 of the demotions were reversed on the same day.
